Get to know Rick...
My name is Rick Wood, and I am a candidate for WNA Board President. My wife, Sara, and I have lived at 2918 Cambridgeshire Drive for thirty-five years, where we raised our three sons. We have always felt this is a very special neighborhood.
Background and Experience
I have spent most of my career in sales and sales management with a major manufacturer working with businesses ranging from small family operations to multi-billion-dollar corporations. I am retired and continue to enjoy working with people and helping address problems. I currently serve as Government Liaison for WNA. My primary focus is on city issues such as zoning, short term rentals (STR’s) and crime that might impact our neighborhood. As requested, I attend board meetings to provide updates and communicate with residents through the newsletter and neighborhood WNA meetings.
In the prior 2024-2025 board term, I chaired the Bylaws Committee and frequently met with the board to present updates, as well as presented Bylaw committee reports at WNA meetings. I've also been active in our community as a Y-Guides Chief and team leader for multiple years with our three sons. I was a little league baseball and flag football coach as well. (If you can manage early-age little league teams, you can manage anything…well, almost!)
Key Areas of Focus
-
Neighborhood Involvement and Relations: Because it affects nearly every other issue and opportunity.
-
Safety and Welfare: Staying alert to crime and working closely with city and law enforcement.
-
Financial Responsibility: Managing the budget, increasing participation, and using WNA funds wisely.
-
Zoning and STR Oversight: Remaining vigilant to both neighborhood circumstances and rule changes and their impact.
-
Community Engagement: Seeking input on beautification projects and social events.
Why I’m Running
I have in the past helped WNA causes in a support role, but I now feel compelled, and encouraged by others, to run for president. I believe my experience and knowledge provide a strong foundation for WNA leadership. It is said the buck stops with the President and I know there will be tough decisions at times. I can make those necessary decisions and be an effective collaborator with the Board and others. Even when our ideas or approaches differ.
I look at us as neighbors and truly believe most all of us want what is best for our neighborhood, which is an extension of our home and property. I am concerned about recent divisions that are causing problems and splitting the neighborhood.
Woodgate is a great neighborhood and I am confident if we all work together it will continue be a great neighborhood and someplace we are proud to call our home.
Thank you for considering me for your vote.
