Thank you to everyone who attended the Woodgate Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 17. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the past year, review our progress, discuss neighborhood priorities, and hear from residents. I appreciate everyone who continues to support WNA and contributes to making Woodgate a great place to live.

Below is a recap of the key updates and discussions from our meeting:

New Treasurer Elected:

Mauricio Mazuera was voted by affirmation to Board position of Treasurer. Beginning January 1, 2027. Congrats and thank you for your willingness to serve the neighborhood!

We Reviewed Goals Established for 2026:

  1. Increasing Participation and Growing or Sustaining Membership. We're pleased with WNA participation and have had a small increase in our membership. Effectively obtained quality sponsors to help support membership funds.

  2. Bringing Together Neighborhood…Decreasing Division by:

    • Straight forward positive communications

    • Different forms of Communication /Quarterly Handouts

    • Neighborhood engagement

    • Grew number of followers and received positive comments

  3. Support Government Watch and Crime

    • Monitoring things that affect Woodgate.

    • Planning & Zoning/City Council/Crime

    • Uphold neighbor convents in a persistent but respectful way as best we can

Financial Report, Reviewed in Depth YTD Numbers

Finances have improved this year. We're “projected” to break even or small increase in net income. Two sponsors were signed up to help support expenses in 2026. It is important to note that in the past 2 of 3 years, finances have had a deficit. Biggest expense being the insurance cost that was implemented in 2024, but it is needed.

Therefore, it is the board’s intention to raise annual dues by $10 to $85 a year (equating to $7.08 per month) beginning January 1, 2027. Even a raise that averages less than $1 month is not taken lightly but it is needed with increasing costs. As always in a voluntary neighborhood association, neighbors will continue to decide their participation.

Committee Reports

Architectural

Monitor neighborhood and listen to neighbors pointing out code/safety violations and try to work respectfully with neighbors in that regard. They file code violations and do so for a neighbor, unfamiliar with the process. They continue to communicate and work with the City of Carrollton as needed.

Government & Crime

Provided an up update on the upcoming Frankford and Hebron road construction, which has been pushed out to 2027. Attention to pothole repair and traffic light at Cambridgeshire & Frankford. We continue to monitor crime through access to the Community Crime Map.

Cares Committee

Woodgate neighbors helping Woodgate neighbors. Meals after a life event, notes of encouragement, basic help.

Beautification

Water running at Clinton & Old Denton after 3 years. Extensive landscaping at both entrances.

Block Captains

Very important to Woodgate. We still need volunteers for Sycamore and Mesquite. Please contact vicepresident@woodgateneighbors.com if you're interested.

Q&A Topics

Neighborhood Skeleton Question: A neighborhood skeleton with a sign mentioning a resident by name. Is the Board going to get involved to stop it? Answer: These are personal choices made by residents. There is also a history of the person named on the sign portraying the property and its residents in a derogatory manner. The board does not condone or support either party’s actions. This is a private matter, but the board will consider whether any intervention could be helpful.

Parking Concerns We evaluated the proposal put forth by a resident that involved residents signing a petition to compel the city to evaluate and place ‘no parking’ signs near intersections, water hydrants, etc. City is more than willing to evaluate a few intersections without a petition. Also, police have told us they know the ‘no parking’ zone statues, and signs are not needed for enforcement, nor do they result in frequency of patrol. For those reasons, a petition is unnecessary, and we should preserve our neighborhood voice for a time and matter where it is truly needed. We do intend to have a “parking safety rules and tips” article in an upcoming Woodgate neighborhood association publication.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at president@woodgateneighbors.com.

Stay classy, Woodgate!

WNA President
