From Concern to Commitment: My Journey to Joining the WNA Board

Hello, neighbors! I am Ken Wray; we live on Magnolia. I want to introduce myself because I recently accepted the 2nd Vice President position of the Woodgate Neighborhood Association. I did so after addressing some concerns; one of which is my frustration with one of our fellow neighbors. From what I have witnessed, he unfortunately has chosen to use his considerable talents and energy to publicly, in a negative, divisive manner, criticize the existing Board for just about everything they have or haven't done.
As we all know, membership in WNA is voluntary. Serving on the Board, committees or as a Block Captain, is also voluntary. In my view, neighbors willing to step up and give their personal time and effort to serving the betterment of our neighborhood in these roles at least deserve positive, constructive support. It certainly is a member's right to disagree with a decision or action, but it can be done in a amicable fashion. If the issue isn't resolved to their satisfaction, they can run for election at the next opportunity - provided they have paid the $75 contribution of annual dues to help support WNA's mission.
Based on my opinion above, I felt I should try to contribute in some positive way to help the WNA within its existing framework. I hope our neighbors will share any thoughts they have on how we can positively enhance the WNA and our subdivision.
In closing, I want to paraphrase an anonymous sages comment: In the long-run, we get back what we give out.
