The results are in! Thank you to all 77 actively engaged residents of Woodgate who took the time to share your thoughts on what’s working in Woodgate and where we can improve. Your input is invaluable in shaping the future of the Woodgate Neighborhood Association (WNA).

Let’s dive into what you said—and what we’re doing about it…

Question Results

Who Lives in Woodgate?

We have a strong mix of long-time residents and newer homeowners. According to the survey:

  • 22% of respondents have lived here for 2-5 years

  • 16.9% have been here for 6-10 years

  • 19.5% have been here for 11-20 years

  • 40% have been residents for more than 20 years

This blend of experience and fresh perspectives creates an exciting opportunity. We can learn from our longtime neighbors while introducing new traditions that bring us all together.

Recommendations:

  • Hosting “Meet Your Neighbors” events, where newer residents can connect with those who know the history of Woodgate.

  • Adding “Neighbor of the Month” highlights to our monthly newsletter to help everyone get to know our neighbors and build community. (Starting in May Newsletter!)

Question Results

Membership in WNA: Why some join (and some don’t)

Most respondents are paying members of the WNA. But for those who haven't paid yet, here is what they said:

  • “I don’t really know what the benefits are.”

  • “I forgot to renew.”

  • “We haven't paid the past couple years because of the whole mandatory vs voluntary non-sense."

  • "I'm still deciding if I am going to pay my dues this year. What happened to all the fun we used to have with the WNA?"

Question Results

How Do You Want to Stay Informed?

We asked about your preferred way to receive updates, and here’s what you said (multiple respondents selected more than one):

  • 85.7% like the Woodgate Newsletter

  • 45.5% use WoodgateNeighbors.com

  • 41.6% prefer Facebook (Official Woodgate Group)

  • 23.4% rely on neighbors for information

  • Surprisingly, no one selected NextDoor!

Facebook remains a popular way to share information, but it’s clear that not everyone is active there, with the monthly newsletter being the most active channel to receive information.

Top Concerns in Woodgate

We asked, “What do you think is the most important concern for our neighborhood?”  Here is what stood out:

1. Property Maintenance

  • “Homes in disrepair can lower our property values.”

  • “Homeowners keeping up on maintenance, lawns and tree trimming along with picking up dog doo when pets go in yards other than the dog owners."

  • "I think a lot of the homes look rundown...don't know how to fix that!”

  • “Would appreciate continued efforts to maintain our attractive entrances, keep homeowners aware of rules re: trash, bulk item pickup, etc."

  • "Community. Houses with overgrown yards/landscaping. "

2. Community Connection

  • “I don’t really know a lot of my neighbors. Wish we had more events to meet people.”

  • "Bringing the neighborhood together. There is a "us vs. them" mentality…”

  • “More ways to bring people together, like block parties or small gatherings.”

3. Safety, Security, and STRs

  • “The speeding and reckless driving is out of control.”

  • “We need more awareness around rentals in the area, safety and break-ins.”

  • "The ongoing challenge has been the short-term rental situation. I have that situation happening a few houses away from me & am afraid of how that will negatively impact my life & my property value. "

Solutions:

  • Work with the city to address traffic and safety concerns. (speeding, neighborhood watch, etc.)

  • Hiring landscape company to maintain our entrances.

  • Bring back "Yard of the Month" to help spur pride in ownership.

  • Continue to engage with City of Carrollton on STR related issues.

  • Organize a “get to know your neighbor” campaign—the more people know each other; the less people will assume about each other.

The Newsletter: What you want to read

Most of the respondents (76.6%) prefer a monthly newsletter. But what should go in it?

Most Requested Topics:

  • Board Updates

  • Neighbor Highlights (think “neighbor of the month.”)

  • Neighborhood events (upcoming events to drive engagement)

  • City updates (construction, trash pickup changes, etc. as needed)

  • Links to safety alerts and police updates (community crime map)

  • Volunteer and committee opportunities (ways to get involved)

Solutions:

  • Include a “Neighbor Spotlight” in each newsletter, featuring a quick resident’s story.

  • Make committee opportunities more visible with a simple sign-up form.

  • Continue to provide City of Carrollton, police, and neighborhood updates as needed.

Community Events:

Most respondents (nearly 50%) said they’d like to see 3 neighborhood events per year. When asked to pick their favorites, the top 5 choices were:

  1. Fall Festival

  2. Chili Cook-Off

  3. Holiday in the Park

  4. Happy Hours

  5. Coffee with Police and Fire

These events bring people together, and many of you also suggested smaller, casual gatherings.

Solutions:

  • Create opportunities for smaller gatherings, such as walking groups, local happy hours, etc.

  • Plan events well in advance to get people excited for the year ahead.

Question Results

Volunteering: Who’s in?

When asked if you’d like to volunteer for a WNA committee, the majority said “No” with only a handful of enthusiastic “Yes” responses.

We understand that life is busy, but even small contributions make a big difference.
