Great News About STRs and Bed & Breakfasts

Happy New Year, Woodgate! As the new year begins, I wanted to share some genuinely great news for Woodgate and for Carrollton as a whole.
The Carrollton City Council unanimously approved two ordinances that effectively stop any new Short-Term Rentals (STRs) and Bed-and-Breakfasts from opening!
Back in May, the city had put a temporary pause on new STRs and BnB's so they could take a closer look at the issue and see how other cities were handling it.
These new ordinances do two important things:
They make that pause permanent.
Puts clear rules in place for any STRs or BnB's that already existed.
Several Woodgate neighbors showed up at different points along the way to make our concerns heard, and that mattered. Our voices, combined with those from other Carrollton neighborhoods, helped city leaders better understand how these rentals affect residential areas like ours. That input clearly played a role in getting these protections in place.
So does this mean the issue is completely behind us?
This is definitely a big win for Woodgate and for Carrollton, but there are still a few things to keep in mind:
Any STRs or BnB's that were already operating are allowed to continue, but they’re now required to meet city compliance standards every year.
Also (as we know), not every operator follows the rules or seeks permits when they should. That part has not magically disappeared!
Because of that, it is still important for all of us in Woodgate to stay aware of what is happening around us. Some common signs of a possible STR can include:
A steady rotation of different people coming and going.
Multiple unfamiliar cars regularly parked in the driveway or on the street.
Overflowing trash cans or an unusual amount of trash on collection days.
If something does not seem right, speak up! Overall, this is great news and a strong way to start the year for Woodgate!
