June President's Update

Rick Wood
Rick Wood, WNA President

Hello, Woodgate Neighbors! With Memorial Day being just days behind us, I wanted to take a moment to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country and our freedoms. May their sacrifice always be remembered and may we never take those freedoms for granted.

Because last month’s update was packed with information, I wanted to focus this month on a couple of key items and address a question a few of you have asked.

Potential Development of the Commercial Lot

To briefly recap, we were contacted by the owner’s representatives about developing the property and requested zoning changes behind the homes on upper Magnolia (just west of Sonic). Those changes included a taller building and fewer zoning restrictions. Our main concerns were privacy, sight lines and the possibility of restaurants creating odors and attracting rats and other pests through trash disposal.

The developers indicated that they would revise their plans and share the updated version with us once it is complete. While we hope that happens, we’re also looking for other steps in the process. Susan Michell, our WNA Government Liaison, has been monitoring zoning and city council meetings for any mention of this project.

In addition, homeowners within 200 feet of the development would need to be notified of any zoning change request. That includes four or five homes on upper Magnolia. Also, a sign must be posted on the vacant lot notifying interested parties of a proposed zoning change.

So far, none of that has happened! So, this is a case of no news is good news. We’ll be sure to keep you informed as soon as we know anything new.

A Special Thank You for the Generous Additional Donations

I want to extend a special thank you to all those who have contributed beyond their regular annual dues. Since the start of the year, several households have made additional donations! At the end of April and into May, we saw an increase in these contributions, supporting beautification efforts, legal support, and the flag program.

One especially meaningful detail is that these generous, neighborhood-minded homeowners have asked to remain anonymous. Thank you all very much for your generosity and support!

What a wonderful sentiment to close on!

Stay classy, Woodgate!
