July President's Update

Rick Wood, WNA President
Rick Wood, WNA President

Hello, Woodgate! We’d like to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of our nation! The United States of America is made up of 50 distinctive states. I’ll return to that thought shortly, but first, I have some promoting to do…

Our Red, White, and Wheels Ice Cream Social

Be sure to join us on Sunday, July 19th at 6:30 PM in the Maple Court cul-de-sac! As a board, we wanted to host an event that encourages families to come out, mingle, and enjoy time together—whether that means little kids, big kids, teenagers, adults who still act like teenagers, or adults who act like…well, adults!

Not only will there be delicious ice cream treats, but also games and the “decorate your wheels parade.” That can include bikes, trikes, roller blades, skateboards, baby carriages, wagons…well you get the idea. About anything with wheels (obviously, no cars or SUV’ s please) and prizes will be awarded for various categories. We chose Maple Court because there is room to ride and roam without the need to worry about traffic.

So, plan for a bit of an early dinner and come have dessert with your neighbors even if you can only stay for a short time. Be sure to RSVP before Friday, July 17 so we can get a good idea of how many treats we need to buy. We look forward to seeing you there!

Shifting Gears

As we reach the midpoint of the year, I’ve been reviewing the notes from our first Board meeting in January and the goals we discussed. These included continuing to work with the city to understand plans that could affect our neighborhood, increasing membership and participation, applying the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&R’s) as consistently as possible, and, importantly, helping reduce division within the neighborhood by bringing people together.

One of the things we understand is that trying to reduce division and divisiveness doesn’t mean expecting all of our neighbors to think exactly as we do, nor should it. That will never happen and that’s okay! It is about respecting our neighbors while encouraging cooperation and active involvement to make our neighborhood a better place for everyone.

The Woodgate Neighborhood Association exists to bring together neighbors who share a common interest in the welfare, safety and value of our neighborhood. Like the United States of America, our neighborhood is stronger when we work together and increase our collective involvement. Texas is a great state, but it is even stronger when linked with our nation.

Similarly, when we unite on important matters and more neighbors are part of the WNA, we gain a stronger voice with the city on matters that can affect us all. Increased neighborhood involvement fosters more familiarity and connections leading to better communication, stronger relationships/friendships, and most importantly, a safer neighborhood for everyone.

Your WNA Board will continue to communicate, keeping a watchful eye on planning & zoning and other city matters that might affect Woodgate. We’ll also continue to look for ways to work on things that bring neighbors together. Your thoughts and ideas are always welcome, and you can leave a message for me at: president@woodgateneighbors.com

On behalf of the WNA Board, Happy 250th Anniversary, America! And also, happy 44 years of Woodgate!

Rick Wood
