If you’ve ever seen a friendly face on your morning walks through Woodgate, chances are it was Deb Moss from 1023 Magnolia Drive. She’s been a proud Woodgate resident for 32 years. Funny enough, Deb actually moved into Woodgate on April Fool’s Day, which feels like the perfect start for someone with her fun and outgoing personality.
Deb’s journey to Texas started way up north. She grew up in Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, and Illinois before marrying her husband, Ron, who brought her to the Lone Star State. Her career path has been equally impressive, spanning education and university admissions. She’s been a 6th-grade teacher, served as the Associate Director of Admissions at Bradley University, and later became the Director of Admissions and Alumni Affairs for the UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston.
Back here in our neck of the woods, Deb has worked in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District, first as a substitute teacher, then in the Creekview High School Counseling Office, and now as a Gifted and Talented Program Tester.
Outside of her work, Deb’s heart for community shines through in her volunteer efforts. She attends The Branch Church at Vista Ridge, where she’s part of multiple small groups, a women’s Bible study and Moms in Prayer. She also coordinates monthly community service projects for the Carrollton Women’s Club and supports the Firehouse Theatre (one of her favorite local spots for live shows).
Deb’s interests are as lively as her personality. A self-taught guitarist since the age of 14, she has taught more than 150 people to play (mostly children) and has performed and sung in nearly 100 weddings, including her own. She's also a self-described 70s and 80s rocker girl! She loves both live concerts and musicals. Recently, she’s seen James Taylor (twice), Ben Rector, Keith Urban, and Steven Curtis Chapman. She’s also a huge fan of the Firehouse Theatre’s "Rock of Ages," which she has seen four times!
When she’s not rocking out or volunteering, Deb enjoys reading, puzzles and camping (especially in her favorite place in the world: the Grand Tetons of Wyoming). She also loves attending Dallas Stars hockey games, catching movies at Studio Movie Grill, going to Broadway Dallas, the Winspear, Bass Hall, and the Firehouse for musicals. And when it comes to her favorite restaurants, she’s always up for good Mexican or Italian cuisine, with Chicken il Palio topping her list (she says she could eat it every day).
Family has always been at the heart of everything for Deb. She has two sons, four grandsons, and two wonderful daughters-in-law. She cherishes every minute spent with them; whether it’s at LEGOLAND or in her own backyard.
Deb loves the sense of connection and kindness that makes Woodgate special. As a Magnolia Drive Block Captain and the newly elected WNA Secretary for 2026, she’s excited to continue serving her neighbors.
Her morning walks around the neighborhood, greeting friends and their furry companions, are daily reminders of why Woodgate feels like home. Be sure to stop and say hello the next time you see her out and about!
