September President's Update

Hello, Woodgate! Big thanks to all of you that joined us on the Virtual Town Hall Meeting on the August 18. The meeting was interactive, and we answered questions submitted in advance as well as those raised during the meeting. We also shared an outline of past progress and upcoming planned events, with a few details still to be determined.

Building Community

Our Board, including the Architectural Committee, aims to be helpful and neighborly while protecting the welfare, safety, and value of our neighborhood. We encourage residents to get to know one another because community events are more than social gatherings; they build connections, improve communication, and promote awareness. Together, those efforts help make Woodgate safer and strengthen our overall sense of well-being.

Protecting Our Property Values

Homes in safe, low-crime areas like ours are more likely to retain their value. Property values are also depend on the appearance and condition of homes, yards, fences, and other visible features. Being neighborly does not mean overlooking neglected or poorly maintained properties. Proper upkeep benefits each home, nearby properties, and the entire neighborhood. Tall grass, weeds, and overgrown shrubs can attract mosquitoes, rodents, and other pests, and at this time of year, they can also create a fire hazard. Unmaintained swimming pools can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes...

For these reasons and more, the Architectural Committee submitted 27 code enforcement complaints to the city in August. Some came from neighbor tips, while others resulted from routine neighborhood observations. Remember, the City of Carrollton is our partner. The maintenance issues mentioned above are not just neighborhood nuisances; they are city code violations. And the city has authority and the means to deal with such violations. The city can inspect the property, contact the owner, require corrective action and issue citations when necessary. Be sure to read Steve Sainton’s report for related information.

Submitting Code Complaints

To make all of this work, the City of Carrollton needs our help! All of us are the eyes and ears to help direct the city when a property needs their attention. If you notice a property maintenance issue or something you believe may violate City Code you can send an email to the Architecture Committee and make them aware. They'll contact the appropriate City department and monitor the response to help make sure the concern gets to the right place. You can also submit a complaint on your own via the City of Carrollton's CityView website.
