Update from Our Government Relations Liaison

Government

There was a recent article in the Dallas Morning News, on July 29th, discussing the legal landscape for Short Term Rentals (STR's). The hard news in the article was that the 5th District Appeals Court had once again upheld a temporary injunction blocking the City of Dallas from enforcing its ban on short term rentals in residential neighborhoods.

The “interesting” part was the article goes on to describe the inconsistent manner of these rulings. While Dallas was blocked from enforcement, Fort Worth, Arlington and Grapevine were able to carry on with their ordinances after their court battles, though in some cases, the courts elected not to rule.

The point of this for Woodgate and Carrollton residents is that under this landscape, the Carrollton City Council created a one-year prohibition back in May on applications for new STR’s and Bed and Breakfast permits. This gives them a chance to gather information and observe best practices in an ever-changing legal environment for STR’s. More on this in the upcoming September newsletter.

Crime Report Through End of July

Once again, there were no incidents to report in Woodgate! I like it!

Nearby in the Nottingham neighborhood, there were two separate incidents on Staffordshire. One was a keeping the peace violation and the other was a robbery. You can always check the Community Crime Map for the latest information.

We're in the dog days of summer, Woodgate neighbors! If you see something, say something. Stay cool. Stay safe. And stay classy Woodgate.
