I hope everyone is having a great and safe summer! There has been some recent developments in Woodgate and important upcoming dates you'll want to mark on your calendar.
Town Hall Meeting
On Saturday, August 23rd, we'll be having a Woodgate Town Hall Meeting at Kent Elementary Cafeteria from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will discuss important updates, share ideas, and hear from our board and committees. Be sure to RSVP!
National Night Out
National Night Out is on Tuesday, October 7th. The location is still to be determined but it will be posted well in advance on all platforms.
Annual Woodgate Meeting
On Saturday, October 18th, we'll be having our Annual Woodgate Neighborhood Meeting & Elections at 10:00 a.m. at the Kent Elementary Cafeteria. This important gathering brings our community together to reflect on the past year, discuss future events and plans, and elect new board members. Just a reminder, to vote in the annual election, you do have to be a current, paid dues member of WNA. Be sure to RSVP to the meeting!
Woodgate Cares Committee
I would like to give a big thank you to Lu Ann Blough and Lorrie Engel. They've spearheaded the formation of the new Woodgate Cares Committee. There is lots more to come, but they're implementing some great ideas to show our neighbors that we care. More information is available right here on our website as well.
Yard of the Month
I'd also like to congratulate Gerald & Mary Lou Schoenberg at 1039 Clinton Drive on being selected as our August Yard of the Month!
I would like to update everyone on the process of the WNA Neighborhood Directory.
The deadline was extended to July 31st and the finalized list of neighbors who provided us permission to share their contact information is currently being compiled and the directory is in the process of being designed and published. Brian Penrod has been working with neighbors, as well as local businesses, on helping offset printing cost of the directory. We'll be able to get a bound copy, as we've had in the past. More to come soon!
Lastly, I want to talk about the issue of unsightly lawns.
During the summer, the amount of complaints spike and we've received a few emails from concerned neighbors about overgrown lawns. We've reported these issues to the City of Carrollton, as this is a code compliance violation and they're handling these properties.
As a reminder, the WNA does not have the enforcement or fining ability to any property for this matter. However, the City of Carrollton does and we'll relay anything to them as we see them.
I also want to remind everyone, as a resident of Woodgate, you can also report these on the City of Carrollton Code Compliance website or bring it to the Board’s attention. We can all agree that we want the neighborhood to look great, and it always starts with a well-kept lawns.
As always, if you have any questions or would like to help in any aspect of WNA, please let me know. I hope everyone has a great August!
Thank you,
Sean Bruce, WNA President
